Hey. I’m the Modern Hippy, Missy. I started blogging in July ‘08, I think. I don’t really remember, so much has happened since then. It seems like millions of years ago. Sounds cheezy but it’s how I feel.
I started blogging for personal reasons. My best friend/hubby, was sick. He had been getting worse since we had gotten together in ‘04. Four long years, of trying to figure out what to do to help him get better. It was so frustrating. I was also starting to have some problems with my skin, excema on my hands and teenage acne on my face. My sleeping was getting worse. I had nightmares most of my life and it was starting to wear on me. I was having to sleep 10-12 hours and take a nap just to function. Because of these things and conversations we had about being more responsible earth citizens, we decided to make some changes.

We changed the way we ate, cutting out most processed foods. I changed the household cleaners and looked into different, better quality pet foods for our cat Milo, and doggie Xiann. Here we are a couple of years later. It’s amazing how different our lifestyle is. Rick is finally much better. After diet changes and proper dosages of medication(one day we’ll figure out a way to get him off the medication), Rick is much healthier and happier. We finally left the city and moved to my beloved Bellingham. We’ve been here almost a year! It’s amazing. Life is an adventure. You can’t change everything at one time and expect to afford or even stick to it. Small changes are easier, less overwhelming. I’m continually looking for ways to better our quality of life. Plus, if you try to work on your own attitude, changes can be fun – it’s just learning a new skill that is beneficial and in many cases fun!

I’ve heard time and time again. “Well, I can’t do that! That’s too complicated. It’s inconvenient. There isn’t enough time in the day to change anything.”
To all those overwhelmed “Nay sayers”, own your words and actions. You are only too busy if you don’t take the time. You don’t have to do everything at once, or even do everything I do. Try small things that actually interest you. Most important – try. Your body and our earth can only handle so much pollution and abuse. Do it for you, your kids or your pets. If everyone makes a couple of small changes we all will be healthier and happier.
