&#160This year for Christmas we decided to cut down on the quantity of presents and go for quality instead. It’s not that we didn’t get good present before but there was definitely a lot of them. Since at the moment I am on a decluttering rampage the last thing I want to do is to add to someone else’s clutter. So this year, more thought, possible usefulness, and cost are always on my mind while wracking my brain for ideas.

&#160I’ve done some shopping on Etsy, at the craft store, at the thrift stores and our co-op. This year, so far things seem to be less stressful. The nice thing about doing things like this is it’s more eco-friendly. If you get something that is actually useful then it’s less likely to get thrown in the garbage after it’s sat amoungst clutter for several months or years. Of course shopping locally is important because it’s those local shops and companies that keep a local economy afloat, NOT Walmart. In fact, though I do still visit Jo-Ann Fabrics, it’s those huge chains that can hurt a local economy and the local people, perhaps even including you and me. On top of all that is the clutter consideration. I’ve been dealing with a lot of clutter because I’ve acquired many things I thought I needed in the last few years. Living in too much clutter isn’t good for anyone, so by getting something useful that will actually be appreciated and used you aren’t causing a challenge for anyone else.
&#160Some other ideas for Christmas(brought up by a friend of mine whom has done this herself), if you aren’t sure what to get someone or even what you want for a gift why not donate or have someone else donate to your favorite charity? In King County(think Seattle) most of the city run animal shelters are being shut down because of a lack of funds. This is going to be challenging for the remaining privately run shelters as they will be dealing with even more animals. Why not find a local shelter and find out what they need, buy it and bring it, or just right a check? Or if you can become a foster home for a dog or cat? There are also a lot of people whom may need help. Find a family in need or donate to a local homeless shelter or soup kitchen.
&#160There are so many things you can do to make your holiday special in a different way; to take it out of the mainstream crazy rush. It’s limited only by time and imagination. And of course, like myself, I’m sure there are many people out there willing to share their ideas. So ask away! Happy Holidays!

Between working and trying not to cook too much we have been making trips to Lake Padden.
Last night we were there for a couple of hours, along with a lot of other people. Oh it was so good. At first I was cold, but after paddling around for a few minutes, I got more comfortable.
Just remember wear sunscreen and bring water to drink! Towels really could be optional. We dried off very fast!
Though I didn’t take pictures last night, I did about a week ago. There were some adorable ducklings and their momma enjoying the water.

In the last couple of weeks, I have been feeling like crap. I’m not sure why. I eat healthy, my only vice is that I drink coffee in the morning, rarely more than 2 cups in one day. It started to bother me so I cut back to 1 or a half a cup, just to prevent headaches. Coffee is highly addictive and like any drug you will detox if you quit quickly, even if you wean off it. So I’m weaning, hopefully, other than the occasional cup I will not drink it daily.
After an intensive weekend of continuing education, which I believe kick-started, some detox – I certainly felt like it – I started to feel better. The continuing ed had to do with massage cupping and the different types, styles, and effects, a few of which are drawing toxins to the surface to allow your lymph system to clean it up. I’m doing much better now. However, all the stuff that was brought to the surface made me realize how many things might be stored in my body. Though I have been eating very healthy – no junk food – for over a year, I may still be harboring yucky stuff. I do live in the city so external toxins are plentiful. We have not been able to afford solely organic foods so internal toxins are probable. I also started walking several times a week which increases my blood flow and possibly can start my body ridding of built-up crap ready to be sweat out.
My current plan is to detox/cleanse my body once we move. Currently, in our living situation, I won’t be able to get away from several potentially toxic substances. Let’s face it, Everett is not a clean city. So Bellingham, being more eco-friendly and much smaller than the over-crowded Snohomish county, will be a better place to center and cleanse myself. For now doing research among other things has taken my attention.
So, with many things it appears that there are millions of different opinions about how to successfully detoxify one’s body. I am looking at a couple of things I think would help me greatly. A “full body detox” and a “colon cleanse”. The whole body works to clean itself, so why not help it out by eliminating things and easing it’s work load? Also, a healthy colon is vital to a healthy person. If it doesn’t work properly, or isn’t tidied up then the things it’s suppose to expel may get reabsorbed, or simply hang out and rot. Gross! But remember, that the whole body is interdependent and will work together to rid its self of wastes.
By what I have read so far, raw fruits, veggies, juices, and water seem to be the best bet to clean. Also, there is some discussion about how to clean one’s colon, which works better. I am leery of products/information sold. There is usually a home remedy that works just as well as something manufactured and patented. Over the next few weeks I will come back to share what I have learned. Please leave me ideas if you have experiences with detoxing or cleansing!
